Test Description
Serum adenosine deaminase (ADA) is an enzyme involved in the metabolism of purine and catalyzes the hydrolytic deamination of adenosine to inosine. Measuring serum ADA levels can be useful for diagnosing and monitoring certain conditions.
Indications of the Test
– Diagnosis and monitoring of tuberculosis (TB)
– Evaluation of inflammatory conditions like typhoid fever, infectious mononucleosis, liver disease, sarcoidosis, leukemia, brucellosis, acute pneumonia, rheumatoid arthritis, and malignancies
– Diagnosis of adenosine deaminase deficiency, a rare inherited immunodeficiency disorder

– No special patient preparation is required.
– The blood sample can be collected at any time of day.
