Test Description
Corrected Calcium, Serum is a test that calculates the corrected calcium level for patients with hypoalbuminemia. Serum total calcium may underestimate biologically active calcium levels in the hypoalbuminemic patient. The adjustment formula is as follows: Corrected Calcium mg/dL = (0.8 * (Normal Albumin – Pt’s Albumin)) + Serum Ca.
Indications of the Test
This test is indicated for patients with hypoalbuminemia to calculate the corrected calcium level.
Patient preparation/Instructions
No special preparation is required for this test.
Typical reference values
Normal values for total serum calcium during pregnancy are 8.5-10.2 mg/dL.
