Test Description
The Anti-CCP (Cyclic Citrullinated Peptide) test is used to help diagnose rheumatoid arthritis by detecting the presence of CCP antibodies in the blood. These antibodies, also known as autoantibodies, can attack healthy tissues in the joints, leading to inflammation and joint damage. A positive test result, typically at 20 u/mL or higher, is a strong indicator of rheumatoid arthritis. However, a negative result does not completely rule out the condition, and additional tests may be needed to confirm the diagnosis. The test is often performed alongside other blood tests and medical imaging to accurately diagnose rheumatoid arthritis and differentiate it from other types of arthritis.
Indications of the Test
The test is primarily used for diagnosing rheumatoid arthritis, as it provides better specificity and diagnostic accuracy compared to rheumatoid factor. It can also be used to study the frequency of ACPA positivity and its clinical significance in patients with idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) who do not meet the diagnostic criteria for RA.

No specific patient preparation is required for this test.
Typical Reference Values
